Day 46: Dauphine Island
A great day of cycling, and the first without a headache since the crash. So I'm well on the road to recovery.
Here is a photograph of a Longhorn (The bigger of the two) and a Cattle Egret (The white one)
Today we passed from Mississippi into Alabama (The Yellowhammer State, Heart of Dixie or Cotton State) . As you can see no expense or artistic endeavour has been spared on producing this welcome sign.
The route was very picturesque, pretty flat and with a tailwind that made for an easy ride to Dauphine Island (America's Birdiest Coastal Town!). So here's a photograph of the town's water tower!
You may recall that whilst we camped at Chicot State Park we were visited by Raccoons. Well whilst in New Orleans Sue and Barb (our leaders) visited the local Voodoo Emporium to enquire as to whether there was any dark magic that could be employed to ward off raccoons. And to their great suprise it turns out that there is in the form of the bone of a Raccoon's penis, which must be warn by the person who's bags were visited upon by the raccoons. Accordingly, Cathy was presented with said talisman for warding off raccoons. Here she is looking most pleased with having received it, and which she must wear at all times!
