Day 101: La Guardia de Jaén (Cycle/Drive)

I stayed in ...

... last night.
And here we can see it viewed from La Pandera (Elevation 1830 metres):

If yesterday was a day to forget (not counting the cycling), then today was a day to remember. I knew that I had a tough climb towards the end of the ride so I set off with a relaxed pace, which I continued throughout the day. The scenery was great, the roads mostly quiet and I hardly thought about yesterday's mishap!

The puerto sign I didn't see yesterday, I did see today whilst travelling in the opposite direction!

Later, there was a particular road that I traversed that made me think I was riding the Strada Bianca with its numerous sections of white gravel ...

... rather than the tarmacadam road I expected to be riding on!

Here's where I had lunch in Los Villares:

The following photographs were taken whilst on the climb of La Pandera.

And finally, a view of the Sierra Nevada:

After returning to the van and phaffing for a while I eventually drove to my new location where there is a much needed cooling breeze: at eleven o'clock in the PM, with the van in full ventilation mode, it is currently 21°C.

  • Distance driven: 25 miles
  • Distance cycled: 73 kilometres
  • Weather: The Garmin (navigational aid) was indicating temperatures in the mid thirties °C whilst I rode in the sun up La Pandera!
  • Location: Google Maps
