Day 124: La Riba (Cycle)

Today's ride included a climb up to Rojals (Altitude: 975 metres) from Montblanc (Elevation: 337 metres). What surprised me was the discovery that Rojals was the smallest of small pueblos, when I was expecting some kind of religious institution! Why does a small wee hamlet end up being established so remotely and at such an elevation? Perhaps it was to escape the summer heat!

On descending to Montblanc I was again surprised, I certainly didn't expect to encounter this:

The pueblo looks interesting, I'd definitely return to take a look around the old town when it's less busy:

If you were looking to introduce someone to the joys of cycling up and over mountain passes then this would be a good place to start:

Unfortunately, there isn't a coll sign to greet you at the pass but, the gradient is steady; there are no steep gradient surprises; there are numerous hairpins; the road surface is good; and the descent isn't steep and nor is it technical. Oh yes, and there's little motorised vehicles to contend with.

  • Distance cycled: 91 kilometres
  • Weather: Morning overcast, brightening up in the afternoon, temperatures in the mid twenties C.
