Day 139: Vic (Drive/Cycle/Drive)

First there was a short drive to La Pobla de Lillet:

Where they have a Train Line and Cement Museum (both closed! But, on another day I could be tempted to visit!):

Second, was a climb of the Coll de Creueta (about 21 kilometres in length, altitude 1888 metres). This sign appeared out of nowhere, having already cycled 10 kilometres of the climb:

Similarly, this one showed up with 3 kilometres to go (photograph taken by Andy, a man from Bend in Oregon who was very surprised to see someone cycling the Creueta wearing a Sisters (a small town near Bend) cycling jersey):

However, the person/authority who erected the two foregoing coll signs has yet to get around to erecting the Coll sign that cyclists most want to see: A coll sign at the pass! Or, perhaps it's been robbed! So, here's the view from the coll:

And here's one taken on the way up:

On the way down, an alternative scenic route ...

... took me over this coll ...

... back to La Pobla de Lillet, which I passed through to climb this collada:

... before reaching the pass, once through Sant Julià de Cerdanyola, the gradients significantly increase in steepness (ramps of 10 - 15%)! I was glad to see the Collada sign!

Finally, here's a photo of a mountain that has featured in my previous two cycles:

Thirdly, it was a drive to Vic. Surprisingly, the first 12 kilometres or so of the drive were on the same final 12 kilometres of my cycle into La Pobla de Lillet, but in reverse. I can attest that cycling it was far more enjoyable than driving it!

Finally, I enjoyed my cycle up the Creueta.

  • Distance driven: 45 miles
  • Distance cycled: kilometres
  • Weather: Mostly blue skies until late afternoon. A little rain on my arrival in Vic. Fairly warm, but a wee bit chilly descending from the Creueta.
  • Location: Google Maps
