Day 154: Vauvenargues (Drive)
Well, yesterday was looking as though it was going to be one of those good days that one looks back on in fondness and, so it was, until, at about 11.30pm, I shattered, through my own stupidity, the screen of my electronic tablet-thing-a-ma-bob! Okay, in hindsight, it was still a mighty fine day, I shall either have to buy a new tablet-thinga-ma-bob when I return or, get a replacement screen fitted. In the meantime I'll suffer the inconvenience of trying to use the current one through a maze of shattered glass, which is definitely better than not have the use of it: A minor First World problem!
Meanwhile, I've moved to Vauvenargues and, on the way, I popped into a very good (but expensive) bicycle shop in Aix-en-Provence. Where I was able to purchase at a princely sum of €84.60 a new brake rotor disk for my front wheel. The original one was not behaving itself by causing intermittent rubbing and, on my last ride, there were occasions when the brake was intermittently binding when used. Given that I still have many a descent to come before boarding the ferry on Friday 13th of June, I thought it prudent to replace the disk.
It has been fitted and normal braking action has been reinstated. Safety first and all that. Whilst I was at it I cleaned the bike, lubricated the chain and checked the tyre pressures; all in preparation for tomorrow's ride.
Yep, no ride today, by the time I'd finished it was about 13:45. Amazingly I awoke again at 5am, couldn't get back to sleep, which I think was partly due to the suspected drug dealing going on in the car park! So I got up at about 05:45 and made my breakfast! No surprise then that at about 2pm I was ready for a nap! So nap I did until about 15:45, at which time it was over 33°C inside the van ... I am currently sat outside, in the shade of a small tree, writing this post, and it is rather pleasant!
