Day 33: Moraira (Cycling)

I set off on a route heading inland towards Benissa that avoided cycling on the busier roads. Well, I can confirm that this was mostly achieved but, the fly in the ointment is, in doing so, one has to contend with some pretty steep gradients, especially towards the later stages of the climb out of the Moraira suburbs. I'll see if I can find another alternative!

Also, I had to contend with what appeared to me to be strong headwinds for the first 34 kilometres. Indeed, by about kilometre 22 I was already flagging! I therefore stopped for a large dollop of carbohydrates (in the hope that the energy boost would help my legs wake up!):

Things didn't really improve until I neared Castell de Castells when the headwind become more of a tailwind.

Eventually, as I started the climb to Puerto de Se Creueta the legs finally woke up - or was it the tailwind?

Average gradient 10%, Maximum gradient 15%:

I must say that the "reverse" Creueta, with a good tailwind, is a joy to behold: The climbing was not too hard and then after cresting the summit I was absolutely flying along the rollercoaster that is the first few kilometres of the descent.

All thoughts of tired legs were long gone. Indeed, it was mostly tailwind all the way back to Moraira and, when that was not the case I was descending! What's not to like?

My bike resting at the Coll de Rates Mirador (before continuing the descent):

A tough AM rewarded by a most pleasurable PM!
