Day 42: Moraira (Recovery Ride!)
There are rest days and there are recovery rides, which are rest days on the bike!
I left Llíber because, having spent three nights there, I did not wish to out stay my welcome or, make it problematic for others who may wish to stay a few nights. So I thought I'd return to Moraira for the following reasons:
- I knew there was plenty of space to park.
- I noticed there was a "British Supermarket" here that advertised that it sold goods from the likes of Waitrose and Iceland and I was curious as to what foodstuffs they sold and at what price: the prices were high and I left empty handed. I did wonder whether there really was a need for such a shop and then recalled that we do have shops in the UK dedicated to selling foodstuffs from various nations and, as such, although I'd probably not use the "Brit shop" myself, I don't see any reason why such as shop should not exist in Spain.
- I could go for a short recovery cycle ride, which apparently "expedites the rebound process by sending more blood into your damaged muscles to deliver tissue-mending nutrients and flush out metabolic waste". It is supposed to be an easy paced, flat ride. Stupidly I not only managed to include more than 500 metres of ascent into the ride, I also included a half kilometre section of road with a 10% gradient. I did my best to take it easy!
- I fancied cycling over to Xabia for: 1) coffee and apple strudel 2) ice cream. I did both!
On arrival in Moraira, and prior to embarking on my "easy" cycle ride, I finally got around to cutting/trimming my hair and beard: Recently, when I looked in the mirror, I saw this rather hursuit old man staring back at me, similar to how I imagined Robinson Crusoe looked immediately before his rescue!
Here's a photo of the restaurant at the top of the final climb of the day:
