Day 48: El Mojon (Drive/Cycle)

Here I am in the ghost hamlet of El Mojon, one of three adjacent . I walked through all three and my guess is that something like 95% of the properties are currently empty. I suppose they'll be occupied during the summer season. It is amazing how much infrastructure exists along the Spanish coast solely for holidaymakers to have their two weeks in the sun (maybe some are holiday homes for the Spanish).

Anyway, I drove here and then, because it was a rest day, went for a short, fairly flat, recovery ride. After about 16 kilometres I was thinking this is a very boring ride; I will neither be recommending it nor rid it again. However, I turned onto CV-952 and suddenly I started to enjoy the ride much more. And a little while later, to my surprise, I reached the summit of today's climb: The Puerto de San Miguel de Salinas (elevation 190m). Who knew there was such a thing on this route!

Moving on, I turned right to find myself cycling beside this water feature (see photo, below) for some 12 kilometres, which I also enjoyed:

Unfortunately, on leaving the water feature, the run back to town would could have been better. But once the coast was reached, it was mainly cycle paths to the van.

So, the ride turned out to be quite good in the end, perhaps a 6 out of 10. I'm sure with a couple of tweaks it could be made better.
