Day 59: Sanatorio de Santa Eulalia de Merida (Ciclismo)
A change in the type of riding today, less climbing, but greater distance: about 109 kilometres and roughly 1000 metres of climbing. The plan was to visit the Embalse de Puentes. On the way I discovered this short cut was cut!
Here is a photo of the embalse (dam) as I approached it:
Here is a photo of my bicycle at the dam:
And here we have a photo of the dam and the dam's signpost, taken from the dam's helipad:
A while later I was thinking I could sit and have have my lunch here:
Unfortunately, the smell of industrially raised pig farming made me think again! I must have passed dozens of them whilst out riding today, each accompanied by that awful smell.
I liked the juxtaposition of this peachy building in the landscape ... so I took a photo:
And here's a photo of my bike taking a rest!
In this next photo the mountain in the background is the one that I almost climbed to the top of, only to be thwarted by the Military!
Penultimately, here is a photo of the Aledo roundabout welcome sign, which meant only 2 more kilometres of climbing before the very short descent to the Sanatorium:
Yes, I was going that way!
- Distance driven: 0
- Distance cycled: 109 kilometres
- Mostly overcast. Temperature mm (mid morning) 14°C; ma (mid afternoon) 22°C. A short rain shower occurred at about 17:45. [note: when I feel like it, I shall be using "mm" and "ma" as shorthand for mid morning and mid afternoon, respectively. For those that only occasionally dip into these blog posts of mine, and are interested in the day's weather, this may lead to some confusion - but so be it!] Oh yes, mm is about 10 o'clock and ma is about 2 - 3 pm! I appreciate some of you early birds my question the choice of 10am as mid morning but, for me, except on very rare occasions, mid morning is most definitely about 10am!]
