Day 76: Pueblo Salinas (Ciclo)
Rain delayed the start of play! Fortunately, there was forecast to be a brighter spell of weather, before the rain was predicted to return mid-afternoon.
Accordingly, I planned a shortened and altered ride of the coastal route I rode the other day. At least that's what I thought!
Coastal photograph 1: (for people of a certain age) Let's see what's through the Arched Window!
Coastal photograph 2: A house with a sea view!
Coastal photograph 3: Oh no! the road is blocked ... and there's no getting through this time!
Given that the heavy plant at the top of the slope was busy pushing rocks over the side on to the road, it seemed reasonable for the workers not to let me proceed!
Accordingly, I made a u-turn and went for an impromptu ride that ended up with me visiting the town of Cueves del Almanzora. Where some nearby caves can be found! Apparently, the caves are known as the "Caves of Calguerín": there are about 300, some of which have been used as shelters and homes since Paleolithic times.
Here you can see the cliff face in which the cave entrances can be found:
And here's a closure view:
On leaving this area and cycling into the town centre I cycled through what appeared to be an exceptionally run down area, which appeared to be an extension of the cave area. I was a little nervous and I didn't stop to take photos of the dilapidated state of the place.
Later, the rain returned, but it didn't hang around for long:
- Distance driven: 0
- Distance cycled: 54 kilometres
- Westher: Rain to start, then a bright period with increasing wind speeds, followed by a short period of rain and now it is calm.
Today's ride:
