Day 100: Sequeros (cycling)

A photo taken on the penultimate descent of the day:

It's the one-hundredth day of this forth Spain cycling/van odyssey. Given that I was feeling very tired this morning, I was tempted to take a rest day. I think the heat of the past few days has zapped my energy levels.

However, instead of resting, I am glad to say that I did go a cycling; just a little more slowly! And it turned out to be a most enjoyable ride.

As for temperatures:

  • First climb: Started at about 13.5°C. Ended at about 22°C.
  • Second climb: Started at about 25°C. Ended at about 29°C.
  • Final climb: Started at about 30°C. But, was mostly at about 34.5°C.

On each climb I took it fairly easy, drank plenty of water, and it helped that at least some of the time there was a breeze, which did provide some cooling.

Here'a couple of photos taken on the first descent:

Then came the big, multi-hairpinned, climb of the day to Puerto del Portillo.

Followed by a descent to La Alberca (from the opposite direction to yesterday's descent to this pueblo). Apart from the mass gathering at the outskirts of the pueblo, La Alberca was noticeably quieter than yesterday.

And here's a photo of some crosses located on the outskirts of the pueblo known as: Mogarraz (population 247).

Good route, good cycling, took it easy, scenic, interesting pueblos: what's not to like (other than the heat of the final climb!)?

  • Distance driven: 0 miles
  • Distance cycled: 87 kilometres
  • Weather: Sunny, hot, but, at least there was more of a breeze today.
