Day 142: Cassà de la Selva (Cycle/Drive)

A nice bit of civil engineering ...

... encountered on the big climb of the day to Sant Hilari Sacalm (elevation approximately 810 metres):

A shorter ride today. The route was based on Michelin "Scenic Roads" from their Spain and Portugal Atlas 2020, which constituted roughly 99% of the route. In my humble opinion, I would suggest that only 78% of the route could be classified as scenic and/or good for cycling. If I were to cycle the route again, I would first try and find a better route from Anglés to Santa Coloma de Farners. When planning the route I could see this section was on a potentially busy road but, seeing that it was designated as being "scenic" I thought I'd give it a go. It was neither scenic nor enjoyable to cycle. That's why I'd give it a miss if there was a next time!

Unfortunately, whilst cycling this section of road I came across the scene of an ongoing bicycle accident, with an ambulance, police car and fire engine in attendance, which is something no cyclist wishes to see.

Apart from the accident and non cycle friendly, non scenic, section of the route, I'd say it was a very good route that just needs a tweak to the last 13 kilometres or so to make it a recommended route.
