Day 151: Avinyonet de Puigventós (Cycle/Drive)
Two six month cycle tours in North America, and now on my third Spanish odyssey,
Day 150,who would have thought ... only 18 days to go!
Today was the day I conquered Rocacorba! It is one of the most popular Girona climbs. The first "kilometre sign" was not encountered until Kilometre 8:
Here's a view of the destination (altitude 970 metres):
I next came across the kilometre 10 sign (don't know what happened to 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!)
There was one more kilometre sign, at kilometre 13, with 800 metres to go to the summit but, I couldn't stop for a photograph because I was otherwise engaged in trying to keep a fellow cyclist "honest": he had overtaken me a little after I'd taken the previous photograph! I did, pass by him with about 20 metres to go to the top!! I must admit I was huffin' and a puffin' for the final two kilometres or so, and my legs were like jelly by the time I came to a stop!
| At the very top | And When I Turned Around There Was More! |
And the sign!
Later I stopped for a spot of lunch at a recommended eatery in Esponellá:
