Day 17: Benissa (Drive)

Goodbye Calp. Hello Benissa. I had planned on stopping in Moraira. However, on arrival in Moraira I discovered that the second of two height barriers was in the process of being erected at the other entrance. Thus preventing further use of the facility by motorhomes and most larger campervans; including mine! Yet more evidence that Spanish local authorities are in the process of restricting motorhomes in their areas. I suppose the ever increasing numbers of motorhomers has made this inevitable. So it goes!

However, there is an official aire in Benissa, located behind the town's sports centre, that has grey, black and fresh water facilities, which my van needed to discharge and top up. So I thought I may as well go and complete those chores, and ended up staying, at least for tonight anyway.

In other news, I heard today that towards the end of 2025 an Italian friend had a major bicycle accident, i.e. involving broken body parts. Amazingly, he is the 7th person I known that has had a bicycle accident in 2025. For nearly all of my previous years of cycling there have been no major bicycle accidents associated with people I personally know. Perhaps, it is just a freakish year or, is it because older people are more prone to having cycling related accidents?!! Hopefully, this year will revert to being a zero year of accidents!

Finally, thanks to Michael and Noelle for inviting me to share their holiday let for the past few days. I've enjoyed the cycling with Michael (which I think has helped in increasing my fitness and improving my health following my recent fall down the stairs), and the company of both cyclists and climbers in the evenings. Cheers.
