Day 39: Cartagena (Walk)
From about 4am it was rain and the wind was gusting. I do believe that a couple of the gusts were the gustiest winds experienced this year. Indeed, the buffeting of the van was so great that the shaking of it woke me up! I also became concerned that my worn at bike cover might not make it through to daylight in one piece. Fortunately, the gaffer tape held up!
Anyway, by mid morning, the rain eased off and mg legs took me for a stroll in and around Cartagena. It is a very old settlement dating back beyond 3 BCE. There is much in the way of Roman remains to be seen. Including an amphitheatre, which I wished to see, but on arrival at the park from which you can view it from above, I was met with closed gates:

So it goes! But, they could have placed a sign at the bottom of the hill, which would have saved an unnecessary climb!
I did see some of the Foto Fest Cartagena 2026, some of which was quite interesting (and free!).
And an interesting sculpture:

Obviously I treated myself to an ice cream:

And, I was pleased to discover: UP! Obrador. Where they make organic wholemeal sourdough. Their opening hours are 18:00 - 20.00 on Wednesdays! Typically you are supposed to order online. However, I thought I'd give them a try, just in case they had a spare loaf ... and they did. So I bought it! I was surprised just how happy I was to have been able to buy one. The simple pleasures in life can make a big difference to ones well being.
The marching band is doing what marching bands do, again tonight! Indeed, it seems to be identical to last night's effort. But, that perception could simply be down to my ignorance!
