Day 70: La Isleta del Moro (Cycle)
I was pleased to be out on the bike today. The weather forecast indicated there
Today's route was chosen such that it passed through a valley with blooming almond trees!
Although there were two main climbs (one about 17 kilometres in length the other about 11 kilometres) the average gradients were only three percent. Therefore, I thought I was embarking on a fairly easy ride today.
The problem with an average is it can hide a multitude of sins! Today, the gradients were so steep that the road surface was made of concrete, which is used because standard tarmacadam tends to get washed away! So, I was surprised to encounter gradients of about 25%. Shortly thereafter, as the gradient became more shallow, the concrete ended and the "gravel" began. This was yet another surprise, there was not supposed to be any unpaved roads on this route! So it goes!
I was rather pleased when the road surface returned to tarmacadam and, thus, a smoother ride to today's lunch spot in La Torre de les Maçanes ensued:
