Day 54: Terque (Drive/Cycle)

Firstly, I had to leave Tabernas Desert last night at about 23:20. This was because the wind went from light breeze to strong gale/storm force in little to no time. I therefore got the van into drive mode, which took five to ten minutes and set off for Terque; hoping the winds would be calmer there: Torque being the start of the following day's ride.

I was very pleased to discover that the car park that permits the parking of campers was sheltered from the wind. I got in to bed a little after midnight ... and got a decent night's sleep. Result!

The cycling didn't start too well. Firstly, the route had me crossing the Andarax River where there was no means of crossing to the other side without getting wet!

Obviously, I made a u-turn, returned to the main road and tried to find an alternative route to rejoin my original route. The first attempt had me cycling up a steep road with an average gradient of about 15%, and had me doing another u-turn when I reached a gate baring further progress!

Fortunately, on the second attempt, I found a road that had me rejoining my original route at the outskirts of Alhama de Almeria. Effectively, I'd cycled 10 kilometres to get to the point five kilometres from the starting point of the original route!

In Alhama de Almeria:

And I'm glad to report there were no further routing problems. Although, this could have been problem for the extra tall:

The rail bridge is located in Gadar:

And, here's another view of the masts I cycled to yesterday:

And, here is where I had a late lunch:

  • Distance driven: 14 miles
  • Distance cycled: 89 kilometres
  • Weather: Mostly sunny, temps nudging 20°C when sheltered from the wind, but when exposed to the wind the temps dropped to about 13°C.
  • Location: Google Maps
