Day 56: El Palmer (Drive)

Today went something like this:

  • Breakfast (Coffee and toast);
  • A drive to Lidl;
  • Walk to bread shop (bread bought);
  • Walk to coffee shop (coffee bought);
  • Walk back to Lidl (bottled water, Granny Smiths apples and berry juice bought);
  • Drive to Leroy Merlin [Spain's answer to B&Q] (spare knife and hacksaw blades bought);
  • Drive to Aldi (small salad peppers, celery, Greek Yogurt and Milk bought);
  • Drive to Consum supermarket (2 x bags of mixed summer fruits and 2 x tinned mackerel bought);
  • Drive to El Palmar;
  • Make repair to passenger side sliding window.
  • Make coffee;
  • Tidy-up;
  • Make evening meal; and
  • Write this post ... on completion, expect to
    • relax!
    • go to sleep!

The key task of the day was to make a more permanent repair to the passenger side sliding window that I'd previously made a "temporary" repair to, and was beginning to think may actually be a " semi-permanent repair. That was, until it wasn't.

A short while ago I applied silicon lubricant to the window's runners, which seemed to ease the opening of the window. Also, the repair did seem to be holding up, but two days ago, whilst attempting to open the window, my hoped for semi-permanent repair started to become less permanent.

Last year, when the breakage occurred, I was unable to find "official" acrylic adhesive. So, with the intention of making a future "better" repair, I brought some with me from the U.K., along with a piece of 2.0 mm thick, A6 size, acrylic sheet.

So now, my previous 1 star bodge job has been upgraded to what I hope will be a more permanent fix ... it's still a bodge job, but hopefully better. Only time will tell as to which star rating it deserves! My inquiries in the U.K. suggested that to progress to non-bodge job status would cost in excess of £500 (you can't simply replace the single window pane; the whole window assembly has to be replaced! Currently, I've spent less than a tenth of that!

Indeed, it is just one of the many "scars" I have inflicted upon this van! The van's probably only worth £500!!

Taking another look at the latest repair ....

... I think it may work. The possible "fly-in-the-ointment" is what affect the sun's rays may have on the adhesive. As the ye-olde cliché goes: Only time will tell!

Here's where I'm parked-up

This is the third time I've parked in El Palmer. However, the previous occasions were not on a Saturday night .... I have a feeling that is not going to be as peaceful! But, I have what I think may be a good cycle ride planned from here tomorrow. So I'm going to stay.

A couple of fishermen doing what fishermen do, as the sunsets behind us:

  • Distance driven: 30 miles
  • Distance cycled: 0 kilometres
  • Weather: Sunny, light airs, T about 20°C (only 6°C in van @ 7.30am)
  • Location: Google Maps
