Day 75: Antigua estación de Navalagrulla (Cycle - but not much!)
Today's ride involved a section of the Via Verde Sierra, of which I only managed to complete approximately 1.5 kilometres before being forced to do a u-turn because the track had become a waterlogged muddy quagmire. I did attempt to make forward progress, but ended up with muddy waterlogged shoes.
Here's a photograph of them partially cleaned (note the holes in the uppers, which although out with their intended design, make for great liqued mud inlets!)

Anyway, having returned to the van; cleaned my shoes; and washed the mud from my bike; I proceeded to replace the damaged rear tyre with the last of my new spare tyres. Then, whilst making an adjustment to my handlebars, I discovered that one of the mounts attaching the handlebar extension was broken. Fortunately, I had a replacement!
Before the cleaning and bike maintenance, I planned an alternate route that didn't involve cycling on the Via Verde. Well, this route was also effectively a non-starter! Here's why:
The first clue that perhaps all was not well (about 1 kilometre from the van):

Then there is this (about 1 kilometre further along the road):

So I thought I'd take a closer look ...:
... bits of tarmac ripped up from the road ...

Not looking too promising ...

... Ah, no bridge, but plenty of water and a big gap!

Clearly, unless you wished to swim rather than cycle, there was no getting over to the other side!
Apparently, the now destroyed bridge was only two years old!
- Distance driven: 0 miles
- Distance cycled: 3 + 5 = 8 kilometres
