Day 79: El Palmer (Drive)

The forecast was for more rain, both today and tomorrow. So I decided it was time to head west again. [This afternoon a Dutch couple arrived from Tarífa. They said they'd left because they were fed-up with the rain and were heading east in search of sunshine!] I hope I haven't hasty!

First I drove to Almeria to get some bread. Only to discover that the bakery is closed on Mondays! Given the bread they sell is very good I'll return early morning tomorrow.

In the meantime time, I'm parked-up in El Palmer where I stayed last year. It's a very pleasant place to stay and do some bike maintenance between the occasional shower.

Given the bike's gear shifting has been intermittently under performing I decided to replace the cable and in doing so discovered a single strand of the cable had broken! So a good decision to replace it, even though it is only a year or so old. I doubt I'll be buying any more Jagwire cables! Also, I checked and topped up the tyre sealant and gave the bike a clean. All ready for the next ride.

El Palmer, is popular with the local fishermen:

Also there's a hotel, which currently appears to be closed:

A restaurant/bar is also closed and there is a residential block of flats at the other end of the "promenade" and that's all there is to El Palmer!

It is very quiet and peaceful, I can hear the sea's waves gently breaking on the shingle beach, I very much like it here. That's why I chose to return.

  • Distance driven: 81 miles
  • Distance cycled: perhaps a kilometre or two whilst checking gears!
  • Weather: Although rain was forecast, there wasn't very much of it that fell here!
  • Location: Google Maps
