Day 8: el Saler (Ciclismo)

There was much doubt as what I was going to do today. The choices were:

  1. Visit Valencia to watch a game of football;
  2. Go for a bike ride from el Saler and then watch the football;
  3. Bring forward by one day tomorrow's drive south towards Denia/Calpe, and cycle in the Costa Blanca;

Inevitably, in the cold light of day, the wave-function had to collapse and, I decided to ride the reverse of the route I cycled on Thursday: I just could not face watching the game! Instead, I enjoyed the cycle and then listened to the live radio commentary, which was exceptionally anxiety inducing; especially the second half! In hindsight, it would have been better to have watched it: the game finished 2 - 2.

However, I enjoyed the cycling, it is quite something to see what one is missing by not having eyes in the back one's head!

Here are some reverse route photos:

Yes, there's a sting in the tail of the climb!

And, last but not least:

Also, except for the climb to the radar station, cycle in this area very much reminds me of cycling in the Netherlands. These wetlands are very popular with the birdwatcher.

Moreover, much rice is grown here. Indeed, the irrigation system was developed by the Moors way back when there was very much less of everything!

The area is: Albufera Natural Park

Distance driven: 0
Distance cycled: 76 kilometres
Weather: High altitude cloud, temperatures about 12 - 16°C.
