Day 91: Navaconcejo (Cycle/Drive)

It's been a busy fun packed day!

Given the weather forecast I was dressed for a cycling adventure in the cold. The ride did start with a descent, which meant I was soon feeling the cold in my hands and feet. It wasn't until the climbing kicked in that I started to warm up again. When I eventually reached the puerto ...

.... I was beyond toasty warm. Fortunately, the wind speed at the puerto did not seem to be as bad as was forecast. Nonetheless, by the time I'd completed the nine kilometre descent back to the van my hands and feet were again cold!

The ride wasn't long but, despite the cold, I very much enjoyed it. I would definitely do it again, especially the climb up to the puerto de La Puebla.

Here's a photo showing much of the climb from the pueblo "Puebla de la Sierra":

On return to the van it was a shower, food and then coffee and biscuits.

Then it was time for 170 mile drive, which commenced shortly before 3pm, and was eventually completed at about 7.30pm. The big surprise was discovering that there appears to be some kind of big event happening locally this weekend. Firstly, there was a significant increase in traffic and, secondly, when I arrived at the aire in Navaconcejo, it was "bursting at the seams"! This was not expected.

Luckily, I found a place to park-up a few kilometres away, by the side of the Rio Jerte.

Unlikely, earlier in the day, a tin of soup (fortunately not yet opened!) slipped out of my hand and hit my right big toe. I can confirm that a full tin of soup dropped from a height of approximately half a metre on to a big toe hurts!

It's now about 11.30pm, and I'm tired!
