Day 93: Navaconcejo (Cycle)

My body clock has not yet realigned itself with the new time dimension! Today, I awoke at 8.50am. At this rate my body clock will adjust to the current time dynamic in another 5 days!

Given that I'm currently 50 minutes adrift, I set off on today's ride at about 10.50am. Only to discover, about 6.5 kilometres down the road, that the road I should be traversing to the high-point of the day was cortado (cut) and wouldn't reopen until 7pm! Oh well, time for Plan B!

So, I made a u-turn, cycled back to Navaconcejo, and then on to the climb up to the puerto de Honduras. Where I made my second u-turn of the day and cycled back to the van.

On my arrival at the van, I went to change to a lower gear and the gear cable broke! Good timing! No worries, I have spare cables.

After, food, a shower and, coffee and biscuits, I replaced the brake cable. So, my bike is now ready for a second attempt at today's original route.

On the way to puerto de Honduras, I passed through:

And, according to the middle sign, the road to puerto de Honduras is a scenic road (I agree, it is a good climb):

Unfortunately, at the puerto, there was no sign. But, perhaps, there once was!

  • Distance driven: 0 miles
  • Distance cycled: 63 kilometres
  • Weather:-
    • General conditions: Sunny
    • Temperature: Mid morning about 9°C, on the climb 23°C, descending 16.5°C
    • Wind (Beaufort): A strong breeze. But, all though the wind was strong, it was not a dangerous wind; mainly because the wind speed was fairly constant, without gusting and, especially not crosswind gusting.

Today's improvised route:
