Day 97: Béjar (Cyclo)
This morning Dave went storming off up the climb to El Travieso. Was this wise or not?
The first hint that all might not go as well as one might hope was when he saw the first of three signs stating that El Tavieso was Cerrado (closed).
Each one that Dave passed, he had the same thought: He'll see how far he can get? Here's a photo of the final sign:

And here's the sign at the end of the climb:

And some people frolicking in the snow!

So, clearly it wasn't as closed as one might have first thought!
A photo taken on the descent:

And one of the reservoir he passed on the second climb of the day:

And this one on the second descent:

The problem with Dave storming off manifested itself on the third and final climb. It was about eight kilometres in length and, about a third of the way up it, he realised that not only was he running out of water, he was also running out of puff!
Luckily, about three kilometres from the summit there is a petrol station, which he stopped, drank, feed and rested himself at.
Dave bought: 1 Nuii Dark Chocolate and Californian Almonds ice cream (249 Calories), 1 can of coke (139 Calories), and 1 Bounty bar, which contains to bars (139 Calories each!). Accordingly, in little to no time, he had consumed, 666 Calories!! And only had a further nine more kilometres to burn off some of that excess energy before the ride's end!
Dave realises that storming off at the beginning of a ride is not a good strategy, and a better pacing plan should be adopted in the future .... after all, he's nearly 62 years old!
Hopefully, storming Dave hasn't caused any lasting damage! After all, it was a good ride!
