Day 119: Liérganes (Cycle/Drive)

  • Today's climb: Jito de Escarandi
  • First 4 kilometres: tough
  • Then 6 kilometres of "normal" gradients
  • Followed by 3 more tough kilometres
  • Finally: 2 kilometres with negative and positive gradients.
  • The bonus: (accepted by me) is to go beyond the pass and drop down to Treviso, where the road ends. Followed by a 7.5 kilometre climb back up to Jito de Escarandi. And a great descent down to the main road.

Looking back from whence I came:

As seen on the outskirts of Sotres:

When the Vuelta came this way, they stopped at Sotres ... which meant they missed out of some extracurricular steep climbing! I pushed on!

Heading into Treviso:

On the climb back up to the pass:

The climb:

  • Quite hard in places, easier in others.
  • Scenic
  • Recommended

On return to the van:

  • Food

  • Shower

  • Laundry

  • Coffee and biscuits

  • A wee bit of bike maintenance

  • Tidy up

  • Drive to Liérganes

  • Buy "baby leaves" for salad, and some milk

  • Arrive at "aire", only to discover there is "no room in the inn"!

  • Hang about for a bit, and eventually a non-motorhome designated space became available. Since I'm in a campervan, not a motorhome, I took it!

  • Had evening meal, which turned out not to be salad - couldn't be bothered with all the prep, after all, it was after eight!

  • Just about finished blog, at 22:40! (just need to add photos)

  • It's been a long day.

  • I'm tired!

  • Distance driven: 70 miles

  • Distance cycled: 57 kilometres

  • Weather:-

    • General conditions: Overcast, some fog, brightened up, blue skies and fluffy white clouds, some more fog, finally blue skies until I drove into Cantabria where it was overcast!
    • Temperature: 14°C to 22°C
    • Wind (Beaufort): Light to gentle breeze.
  • Location: Google Maps
